The aim of this programme is to prepare students for a broad range of career opportunities, including teaching, public relations, the media (publishing, journalism, advertising etc.) and to provide the knowledge and skills needed for the profession so that they can perform diligently and effectively.
Our Diploma in English programme prepares students by supporting the development of independent learning strategies and research skills whilst preparing for the demands of studying in a chosen academic discipline when moving on to undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.
Students will have the opportunity to develop skills and understanding over a range of tasks including:
Critically exploring the role of English to enhance understanding and appreciation of the English language and its literature.
Developing critical thinking skills with regard to the relationship between language, power, and ideology. Students will develop and present critical, persuasive and well-evidenced arguments suited for professional context.
On completing the programme, our students will have:
Improved and expanded on a range of English Language Skills including speaking, listening, reading and writing. This ensures that our students meet the linguistic requirements for their future university studies.
Undertaken extensive practice in a wide range of academic tasks preparing them for undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.
Developed independent learning strategies and research skills, preparing them for the demands of studying in their chosen academic discipline at a UK university.
An understanding of the system of higher education in the UK and International Universities, familiarising them with their expectations and academic conversions
An understanding of how to work with student support networks to apply and study on foundation, undergraduate and graduate programmes at an international level.
